Betty's free speech stomped by federal law enforcement, as she is taken into custody.
With three days notice, Palestine Solidarity Group organized the third recent protest against Israel's actions in Gaza and Lebanon in a week and a half, with a turnout of 110 (our headcount), rallying across the street from thousands (our estimate at perhaps three) organized by the Jewish United Fund of Chicago, a powerful local force in funneling money to Israel and lobbying local officials. We slipped into the JUF rally for a bit, even getting the press release and access to the press platform, before sneaking a few signs over to the PSG-organized rally, where there was a decidedly greater sense of urgency.
Two people were reportedly arrested or detained, one was hrefBetty who wrote a report on Indymedia of her experience, and another was a Zionist who threw a water bottle at an older ANSWER activist from across the street.
We caught two local nightly news broadcasts, FOX News and WGN, the one-hour 9pm shows. WGN, as is characteristic, gave the whole ordeal very little time, while FOX extended it. Our quotes were much stronger on FOX, and in both and other local network broadcasts, all audio from the JUF stage was largely drowned out by the sound of the pro-Palestine protesters and our mega-phone.
