Re: Si, se puede! - Chicago Witnesses Massive Protest for Immigrant Rights

First of all I just want to point out that America was named after the ITALIAN Amerigo Vespucci, who wrote many popular accounts of his voyages to a "New World." Second lets review a brief history how the United States of America became the United States of America to make this issue a more knowledgable debate.
The rise of nations in Europe were in the age of discovery and brought a hunger for territorial gains across the oceans, first by Spain, Portugal and later by England, France, the Netherlands, and Sweden. Wars in southern Germany caused many Germans to migrate to what is now known as Pennsylvania. The fight in England between the Crown and Parliament also had a significant effect on migration to America. The Reorganization led to religious chaos and division, and minorities of various faiths looked for refuge in America. Such an impulse brought Quakers, Puritans, and Catholics from England, German Pietists from the Rhineland, Scotch Calvinists by way of Ireland, and Huguenots from France. The old manorial system was breaking down, creating a massive group of landless men ready to seek new homes. Most European immigrants left their homelands to escape political oppression, to seek the freedom to practice their religion, or to find opportunities denied to them at home. The first settlers more than likely would not have survived if it wasn’t for the help of friendly Native AMERICANS, who taught them how to grow native plants; pumpkin, squash, beans, and corn.
Then we jump through time and the 13 coloniese founded by immigrants declared its independence and the young nation in due time became what is today the United States. Point being the United Sates was founded by immigrants, and people are just afraid and mad that the face of America is changing. Its starting to look more diverse. Just how it was when America was on its first years. Immigrants are not taking jobs from the citizens, from what I have seen and experienced citizens want better paying jobs and carreers. I really don’t know anybody who is a citizen that will wash dishes for a living. Washing dishes will not put someone through college. Ok lets say every job these immigrants are taking are now legit and minimum wage is a must (which should be) then what, I would still see homeless people asking for money and I would still see welfare lines.
Alright lets get rid of cheap labour, people want to start somewhere then lets start at the root of the problem lets get rid of NAFTA. What is NAFTA? NAFTA was an agreement signed to basically be able to build European, Asian, and American owned factories in other countries such as China or Mexico to escape from labour laws. Where they pay their employees a few cents maybe a dollar or two, and where people cant assemble and create unions and be protected from unions. I guess its ok to use somebody else’s backyard for cheap labour but their owned. Many factories like these save millions of dollars doing this. Also acts and agreements like this affect the countries and the people struggling to search for a better way of life. Forcing poor people to migrate to the US to find a better opportunity. So I don’t think Immigrants in the US are taking promising well payed jobs (dishwashing, cleaning houses, mowing lawns, or collecting scrap metal) that a US citizen is willing to take from the immigrant who supports their family in a different country by earning a hundred dollars or more a week.
The immigration issue is just an excuse made by important high power political people to divert the attention away from the real issue, did everyone forget about Iraq? What progress is being made when more people are dying now then when the war first started? The war isn’t over yet.
