here's a couple of interesting things about the actual outreach that the cfl is doing on behalf of the immigration march:
1. no mention of the rally at 10:00, unless you hit the link to their site and then another link once you get there
2. no mention why mayday is not celebrated everywhere but in the us (actually in south africa and canada too)
Dear Cliff,
On Monday, May 1, the Chicago Federation of Labor and Illinois Labor History Society will host a rally to celebrate May Day at the Haymarket Memorial in Chicago (Des Plaines Ave. between Lake
and Randolph) at 4:30.
CFL President Dennis Gannon will welcome special guests Linda Chavez-Thompson (Executive Vice President, AFL-CIO) and Margaret Blackshere (President, Illinois AFL-CIO) at the rally, as well as workers and religious and community leaders.
The rally at Haymarket Square will follow the march for immigrant workers' rights through downtown and the program at Grant Park.
Throughout the world, May Day is celebrated as international workers' day because of the events that took place at Haymarket Square in Chicago 120 years ago.
We hope you are able to join us for what will be an enjoyable celebration!
