While US politicians hail public protest in the Ukraine and Lebanon, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley blocks citizen protest on Michigan Avenue. While Mickey Mouse and the police are free to use the busy commercial avenue, war protesters are to be shunted-off to a side street with no Saturday foot traffic.
An adverse ruling by a federal judge does not end the matter. Federal courts ruled against Eugene Debs when he spoke out against WW I carnage, and that it was OK to lock up Japanese citizens during WW II. Today it is generally recognized that serious civil liberties denials were committed in both instances.
Act now to inform the mayor's license commission that it must reverse course and affirm public protest access to north Michigan Avenue.

Chicago City Council
Dear Mary Ann:
Truly yours,
BOB SCHWARTZ
