Regarding burning a CD to defeat iTunes DRM - I brought that up with one of the protesters. They were stressing that current DRM is just the beginning - that media companies want to eventually have much more control over usage of media and devices.
While Apple may be the biggest distributor of DRM products I can't help but feal they use it because they have to. True they own the market for digital music but only because they had a great product that was doing very well, but also took the agressive road and made the deals with the media holders. I think they made the best deal they could to get the rights to distribute the content.
Let's target the real problem, the fat cat digital rights holders. The same guys that were selling CD singles for + $10.
Let's target the real problem, which is the commercialization of cultural production. Which is the illusion that any corporate interest is at all benevolent, ever. Which is the confusion between Freedom and our ability to Buy More Crap.
Why not just download a program that gets rid of it, it took me less than five minutes to get rid of the protection on my entire library. Go to ilounge.com there are pleny of programs suggested there. In some instances takes less time than watching this protest, this type of thing has been our history for ages. The government does it all the time. It is our duties to find away around it. As I do appreciate the protest because I agree with the idea, it just seems kind of silly to protest but hey keep doing your thing guys.

Go protest the artists or "Big Media". Companies have to have DRM if they want to be able to distribute content.
Wrong Target?
