Competitiveness, trade and innovation were the globalization themes of the late 90s. The triumph of the US model was emphasized. Now we see there are big holes in the American model. The economy is increasingly deregulated. We have to ask whether the market approach really works. The federal government must create millions of jobs when the private sector refuses job creation.
