J-20 Update: Secret Service, NPS restrictions on signs, banners and "props"

Late addition to Partnership for Civil Justice's "Guide to Effective Participation in the 2001 Inauguration"
In letters to Partnership for Civil Justice attorneys representing demonstrators, both the National Park Service and the United States Secret Service have acknowledged that demonstrators have the right to hold signs and banners.

These government agencies have stated that they will recognize this right, subject only to these restrictions:

Signs must be
- made of cardboard, posterboard or cloth
- less than 1/4 inch thick
- no more than 3 feet by 20 feet

Poles supporting signs must be
- made of wood
- no more than 3/4 of an inch by 3/4 of an inch

The Agencies have also stated that they will not permit "props," including coffins, crosses, statues, and platforms.
