Palestine Update: IDF occupation forces closing in Bethlehem from two directions

Latest update from Palestine Chronicle: Columns of Israeli occupation army tanks are occupying Bethlehem. The Israeli army is closing in on the city from two directions. Other forces have moved closer to the refugee camp of Dehisheih and Beit Jala.

-Columns of Israeli occupation army tanks are occupying Bethlehem. The Israeli army is closing in on the city from two directions. Other forces have moved closer to the refugee camp of Dehisheih and Beit Jala.

-The Palestinian leadership protested the American government ‘green light’ to Israel to carry out its assault on the Palestinian people and population.

-Palestinian President Yasser Arafat is now trapped in the last room in the second floor where is office is based in Ramallah. The Palestinian leader and top Palestinian officials are denied food, water and electricity.

-The secretary general of the Palestinian party Fatah in Jerusalem, Salah Zhikieh was arrested by Israeli police, along with dozens of Palestinian officials in the occupied city. The police also called the Mufti of Jerusalem for interrogation by the police. Earlier the Mufti’s home was raided and searched.

-A Palestinian fighter died when a bomb he held exploded in the Palestinian town of Jenin. It is not clear whether the Palestinian man was intended to attack an Israeli target. Palestinian resistance movements called on all of its members to fight the Israeli invasion by all means necessary.

-A second Israeli soldier was killed by Palestinian fighters who were defending President Yasser Arafat in his headquarters in Ramallah.

-UN chief Kofi Annan called on Israel to immediately cease its attacks on Ramallah and to withdraw its forces from the Presidential compound. Currently, an urgent Security Council is underway to discuss the Israeli assault on the Palestinians. Meanwhile, international condemnation of the Israeli attacks is growing. The United States however was one of a few western nations that failed to condemn the Israeli attack, saying it needs more time to assess the situation.
