Democrats' Anti-Immigrant Healthcare Bill as Bad as Republican Arizona

The horror of racial profiling by Republicans in Arizona was preceded by the Democratically-controlled US Congress and President who passed and signed a health insurance promotion scheme in March 2010 that explicitly denies private insurance to undocumented immigrants even if they have the money to buy it, and of course, they cannot receive public benefits being undocumented.

See March 21, 2010 press release from National Organization for Women, "Health Care Reform Victory Comes with Tragic Setback for Women's Rights," at
www.now.org/press/03-10/03-21b.html
"Fact: The bill imposes harsh restrictions on the ability of immigrants to access health care, imposing a 5-year waiting period on permanent, legal residents before they are eligible for assistance such as Medicaid, and prohibiting undocumented workers even to use their own money to purchase health insurance through an exchange. These provisions are counterproductive in terms of controlling health care costs; they are there because of ugly anti-immigrant sentiment, and must be eliminated."

See also March 24, 2010 article "Medicare-for-All Advocates Say Bill Fails to Meet Needs of People" at the single payer website:

All socialist organizations and the Green Party, support Medicare for all also known as single payer healthcare, or better yet, socialized medicine for everyone on demand, paid for with our tax dollars. They also support amnesty for undocumented immigrants as the only serious immigration reform, preferably at the same time as the immediate repeal of NAFTA and all other trade agreements that allow for dumping of US goods on Latin America, especially Mexico, that is the cause of the search for jobs by undocumented immigrants. If these are your positions, you have to vote socialist or Green; you cannot vote for the evil Democrat-Republicans and expect anything to get better.

When we march this May Day Saturday for the international workingclass, we march in unity with undocumented immigrants and all other members of the workingclass. An Injury to One is an Injury to All!
