Hello everyone! And thanks for your interest in me. (Otherwise you wouldn't be reading my bio right?) Hopefully, this information will help you get to know me a bit better. For those of you seeking a physician, perhaps this home page will help you decide whether or not I'm the right physician for you. So....why did I go into medicine you say? The story goes like this...I have been around doctors most of my life, as well as in and out of hospitals. No, my father was not a doctor. It was because I had personal issues since I was very young. As a result, I know what a good physician can do for a patient. By that, I do not mean just clinical knowledge to heal the body, but the empathy to heal the entire patient (emotionally, mentally, psychologically, etc.). Everyday I strive to achieve this result for each and every one of my patients.
My Background:
I spent the first 7 years of my life in Nassau, Bahamas (yes, I was very sad to leave). My family then moved to South Florida, where I stayed until I graduated from high school. I went to Chicago for college (yes, I was very cold), where I received both my undergraduate and medical degrees. I then decided to stay in Chicago (what was I thinking?!?!) for my residency also. After which I moved back to South Florida to practice for several years. That was a great move, since I met my wife there. For those of you that really want to know, she's a nurse. And no, we didn't meet in the hospital. (That's all I'm saying on that topic here, if you want to know more, you'll have to ask in person.) After we were married, we decided that Miami just wasn't for us. Thus, we made the move to San Jose. Yes it's a long way. We just didn't know how far it was until we drove it. Certainly an experience that will provide lots of material for conversations for years to come.
When I'm not taking care of patients, I have many other things to keep me busy. I enjoy martial arts, hiking, reading, scuba diving, and traveling, to name a few. I also enjoy experiencing new restaurants and different types of foods. Any and all recommendations for good places to eat will be given serious consideration.
Philosophy of Care:
Knowledge is power. I truly believe in that saying, especially when it comes to healthcare. I hope to empower each of my patients with knowledge about their health so that each person will take an active role in their care. To accomplish this, I strive to create an open relationship with each patient where questions can be freely asked without hesitation and all issues can be discussed without embarrassment.
Although my practice includes adults of all ages, I have a special interest in the care of young adults. I am a member of the Young Adult Clinic, which specializes in medical care and wellness services for adults ages 18-25. If you are a young adult and you want to know how Kaiser Permanente can partner with you to keep healthy, I encourage you to take a look at this site Young Adult Health.
Plus, I believe that every patient should take every effort to educate themselves concerning their health. My clinical interests include preventive medicine and I encourage everyone to make full use of the links on the left side of the page, including the one for the Healthwise Handbook (yes, it's the same one that's in the corner collecting dust. It contains a whole lot of helpful information) and Healthy Living (which includes health assessments.) In addition, I have included a few websites below that I find particularly good. That list will probably grow with time.
