The Shortwave Report 3/8/02 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

A 30 minute review of news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.7MB & quick/streaming-3.4MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (March 8) is up at the website www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.7MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:57) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application
(RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via www.kzyx.org/ This stream is often unreliable.
There are several other streams that work quite well- members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- Greenpeace activists block the unloading of tropical lumber in Amsterdam; all 15 EU countries approve the Kyoto Protocols; France blocks an EU proposal to privatize the EU energy market; the 20th annual Drug Enforcement Conference is held in Bolivia while the government of Bolivia boycotts it.
From Germany- Hindus and Muslims turn an argument about a holy site into many horrific massacres; the German Foreign Aid Minister criticizes US policy toward Iran; EU ministers agree to ratify the Kyoto Protocols, hoping to have it in place for an Earth Summit in Johannesburg in August; a report from "Man & Environment about the upcoming Ancient Forests Summit in Netherlands next month.
From Russia- a commentary about Time magazine's article claiming US authorities had information that terrorists planned to set off a nuclear device in NYC in October. This commentary questions the psychological purpose of the magazine article.
From Cuba- a before and an after story about the Agent Orange conference in Hanoi organized by the Vietnam Veterans of America; a Viewpoint on the escalation of the war in Columbia, questioning who benefits from this war.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners)
are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. No Guilt!
