National Human Rights Conference & Youth Summit
How do we know when our human rights are being violated if we don't know what they are?

The US Human Rights Network will be hosting a full-day Youth & Student Human Rights Conference April 18, 2008 during our national conference. December's Youth Summit in Chicago has solidified one thing for all the youth and student organizers and activists: that the exclusion and attack of young people, especially young people of color in all areas of the public sector (healthcare, education, juvenile detention and migration) is a human rights issue. (For more information or to register online visit www.ushrnetwork.org/conference_2008)

* Are young people entitled to human rights?
* Are there special provisions for the treatment of youth in the criminal system?
* How do we ensure that young people's human rights are being protected?
* What are economic, social and cultural rights?
* What is democracy, capitalism, globalization?

Join us as we discuss these and other relevant issues facing young people in the US at this country's non-compliance when it comes to adhering to international human rights standards and youth. Registration for the youth summit includes the full 4-day conference. Registration is only $25 and includes access to all trainings and meals April 17-20th. Limited scholarships are available until March 15th. Register for scholarship application.

We are accepting proposals for the youth summit. If your organization, student group, community group, church, or street organization organizes around social justice issues and use human rights framework, you can download an application for consideration, you must register first. Deadline for Proposals is April 1, 2008. Proposals by youths of color, queer, immigrant, disabled, indigenous, Chicago-area youth organizations and youth in the media are encouraged to submit proposals.

What to expect at the Student & Youth Summit?

* Workshops and plenaries to inform youth and students about human rights and United States non-compliance
* Innovative new ways to document, inform, and report on human rights violations in your own community
* Performances by local and national progressive artists
