CDIR Expects Surge Of Anti-Immigrant Scape-Goating

The Coalition In Defense of Immigrant Rights (CDIR)-USA expects a high tide or a surge of anti-immigrant scape-goating in the face of the current economic recession in the United States.

The CDIR-USA coordinator Arturo P. Garcia also expressed alarm over the move of anti-immigrant lobbyist Ward Connelly, the author of the infamous Proposition 209 in California to put into ballot initiative in five states propositions about race and gender equality. The ballot measures will have better chances of winning in those states like Arizona, Missouri and Colorado with high anti-immigrant bias and forces.

In an article by Floyd Norris of the New York Times,”Unemployment rate signals danger” it says: ”the number of Americans out of work starts to rise sharply. This is assign that recession occurs. The US Labor Department reported that in December 2007, some 7,6555,000 people were unemployed.”

Economic Recession Signs

“The figure was 13.2 percent higher than the 6,700,000 figurer last December. In the past, a 13 percent annual rise has been the sign of a recession every time. Before December, there have been nine cycles in the United States since 1950 in which the annual change in unemployment rose from13 % or higher.”

“Of the nine recessions since 1950 listed by the economic research bureau, five began with unemployment lower than that they were the downturns in 1953, 1957,1969,1973 and 2001.”

“ The only time the unemployment rise came before the recession rise before the recession actually started was in 1969 when the increase hit the 13% mark in September but the recession’s official starting date was later to be determined to be in December. There was a rare instance when annual change after rising to 13%, slipped below the level for a couple of months. It did not move above the 13% to stay until January 1970, a month after the recession began. “
