Not In My Name is a Chicago-area Jewish peace group
that was formed in November 2000 to work for a just
peace between Israelis and Palestinians. We believe
that the first step toward attaining this peace will
occur only when Israel ends its military occupation of
the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. We call
ourselves "Not In My Name" because the State of Israel
often claims to act in the name and interests of Jews
world-wide, but these actions do not reflect our
Jewish values and beliefs.

In its first year, Not In My Name has actively
promoted an alternative Jewish viewpoint on the Middle
East to the Chicago public and beyond. We have
organized two major conferences, sponsored a visit to
Chicago of two prominent Israeli peace activists, Uri
and Rachel Avnery, participated in over 30 programs
and panel discussions, and held weekly vigils for over
10 months, calling for an end to Israel's occupation
of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Not In My Name has
also built relationships with Palestinian, Arab
American and Muslim and Christian allies.

While developments in the Middle East this past year
have deteriorated, we believe that Not In My Name has
played and will continue to play--with your support--a
crucial role in helping to bring about a just peace
between Israelis and Palestinians. Please join us on
March 2, 2002 to strengthen our voice and celebrate
the efforts of peace activists in Chicago, Israel and
Palestine.
