The US Farmers' Almanac predicts a colder than usual winter from Maine to Florida with excellent skiing conditions in the northeast.

Meanwhile the National Weather Service (NWS) predicts higher than normal temperatures this winter except in the northwest accorfing to NWS meteorologist Edward O'Lenic.

Both NWS and the Farmers' Almanac are silent but deadly on climate change - global warming.

And from the Twin Cities:

NWS chief Dan Luna told people that climate change has had nothing to do with floods and droughts in the Midwest.

WCCO TV chief meteorologist Paul Douglas wrote a book about restless weather a couple or so years ago merely alluding to climate change (one chapter).

Luna and Douglas have been silent about whether or not climate-change influenced the recent drought and floods in the Midwest.

The public needs to be told that climate-change has now become part of the equation that determines weather in the Midwest and elsewhere on the planet.

Here's part of what "they" said for the public in Minneapolis today:

NWS Luna noted that the recent rains were fueled by an unusual channel of moisture coming from the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California plus the customary summer moisture from the Gulf of Mexico that was stalled by an east-west flow of air about 12,000 feet above the ground.

WCCO Douglas added that the reason drought preceded the rains was because similar warm-cold boundaries had remained to the north and south ..
