Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (February 1) is up at the website www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.7MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (30:00) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program is aired at 7pm PST on Friday evening (usually a few minutes late) at KZYX/Z Philo CA and may be streamed via www.kzyx.org
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, the Voice of Russia, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- the controversy over US held prisoners is not dying down; Chile is buying fighter jets from the US, the first such sale to a S A country in 20 years; Bush's State of the Union has prompted angry reactions in the Middle East.
From Germany- the State of the Union included a claim that Iran, Iraq, and N Korea formed an "axis of evil," statements rejected by all 3 countries; the EU has pledged support for Yassir Arafat despite the US govt's increased criticism of his role in the war with Israel; the Enron scandal is analyzed as evidence that there is too much connection between Big Business and US politics.
From Russia- a commentary on the history of Enron- was it ever a group of adventure-seeking capitalists, or was it a collection of outright swindlers?
From Spain- Cuba is hosting a meeting between the Columbian govt and the 2nd largest rebel group, the ELN; meanwhile the Columbian govt forces are on the offensive against the largest Columbian rebel group, the FARC; Mexico is going to file a civil lawsuit against the US govt for the fatal shooting of a Mexican national climbing the fence near Douglas, Arizona; Iraq has approached the EU for high-level talks on lifting the sanctions; US troops have arrived in the Phillipines for an alleged exercise with Phillipine troops.
From Cuba- a report on the State of the Union address, pointing out some parts Bush forgot to mention, along with responses from Iran, Iraq, and N and S Korea.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners)
are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. No Guilt!
