Here Is New York Comes To Chicago

1,500 professional and amateur photographs related to September 11 and its aftermath presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

Here is New York — the
democratic exhibition to end all
exhibitions — makes it first foray
out of New York City and heads
to the Windy City on February
1.

The exhibition of some 1,500
professional and amateur
photographs related to
September 11 and its aftermath
will be presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs at 72 E.
Randolph Street. It closes March 30. This is the exhibition’s first major
show outside New York City and there is talk of taking it international.

Here is New York was a grassroots project started by four individuals —
Alice Rose George, Gilles Peress, Michael Shulan and Charles Traub.
What started as a call for images to fill a small gallery soon attracted
hundreds of contributors and thousands more visitors. The prints, displayed
anonymously, were sold to raise funds for the Children’s Aid Society World
Trade Center Relief Fund and other charities.

Chicago residents are invited to contribute their own September 11
photographs, which will be added to the archive at www.hereisnewyork.org

The exhibition is open everyday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
