Chicago Independent TV in Aug: DRM Protest, Net Neutrality, Taste Arrests, New Orleans

ON THE SHOW THIS MONTH:

Chicago Indymedia’s summer intern hosts an episode of the show.

Digital Restrictions Management Protest – This segment documents a June 10th, 2006 protest in front of the Apple Store in downtown Chicago. Their target was DRM, Digital Rights Management, or Digital Restrictions Management as they called it, which is a technology that limits the use of digital media provided by big corporations.

Net Neutrality! – A piece about the future of the internet and how the big bad corporations are, once again, trying to bribe [-- we mean, "convince" --] Congress to rewrite the constitution and do away with our right to internet access, all for an easy buck. Incensed yet? Well, you should be...

Taste of Chicago Arrests - The Taste of Chicago is a big annual food fest in downtown Chicago. A lot of people go to it and it's a generally good time. Fun for the whole family! Some activists went out there to enjoy the festivities... hand out some flyers, maintain a presence against coercive military recruiters... and then got arrested in a police crackdown of peaceful counter-recruitment protesters.

2005 G-8 Protest in Scotland – The G8 is an exclusive club consisting of leaders of the eight major world governments. They meet once a year, and are often received quite warmly... by protesters. They could have come to Chicago in 2004, but they instead went to some remote island off of Georgia. I guess they learned something from the G8 summit of 2005, when they met up in Gleneagles, Scotland, to be met by these creative protesters.

Music Video - Walking to New Orleans – By Iraq Veterans Against the War. Iraq war veterans who are critical of the war and have returned to America to help out and march on behalf of Hurricane Katrina victims..

WHO WE ARE:
We are the Chicago Indymedia Video Collective. We operate along the same lines as Indymedia, fostering the same ideals and processes. We are a collective of media producers, activists, videographers and concerned citizens offering your alternative to mainstream corporate coverage of local and international events, movements and expression. In the summer of 2003 the idea of an independent television show, free from corporate bias and serving the needs of the community, was conceived. Chicago Independent Television is the result of that movement.
Our mission is to provide YOUR CORPORATE NEWS ALTERNATIVE.
