Event: Honor the Dead, Fight for the Living: Vietnam Vets Against the War sponsors Memorial Day program

Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) and its supporters will hold a Memorial Day commemoration to highlight Bush
administration failures to provide proper medical care, services and benefits for veterans of the Iraq War, and the need for a
U.S. troop withdrawal. "Memorial Day is not just about remembering those who died, but is also a reminder that the government
cannot simply forget about young men and women who served this country, even in Iraq where lies and mismanagement are costing
lives," said Barry Romo, a VVAW national coordinator. Two major issues for servicemen returning from Iraq are contamination from
weapons that used depleted uranium and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Event: Workshop Series on "Tools for Social Change, Direct from the Conflict Unraveled Toolkit"

Ever notice that the results we see from our social activism are predictable? Is it possible that if we had more tools, options
and better ways to get things done we might be better able to realize our goals? Developed at Northwestern University and the
University of Chicago, the Conflict Unraveled Toolkit uses original and little-known material drawn from research labs,
chimpanzee troops, and nearly lost techniques from the great tacticians of the civil rights era. In this series, sponsored by

Event: Presentation of "Marx in Soho"

In this play by Howard Zinn, with Jerry Levy, who portrays the return of Marx roughly a century after his death, the audience is
given a rare glimpse of the Marx seldom seen: Marx the scholar, the immigrant, the family man. Zinn casts a divergent light from
the totalitarian movements with which Marx's theories have long been associated. In a poignant, whimsical and intimate narrative,
Zinn humanizes Marx "the man" and convinces us not only that Marx is not dead, but that his critique of capitalism remains
relevant today.

The production of "Marx in Soho" will benefit the Near NorthWest Arts Council, a wonderful arts nexus, empowering culture and
social action in Chicago. Tickets are $10, $8 for students and seniors.

Event: Grand Opening Celebration for Voices Exchange

Event programmers for civic organizations will have a chance to meet and sample prominent Chicago-area speakers and performers in
person at two grand opening celebrations for a new progressive programming bureau, Voices Exchange. These events are FREE and
will allow attendees to sample complementary hors d'oeuvres and beverages while mingling. Voices Exchange was founded to put
civic organizations in touch with speakers, performers, and films whose message is not readily available in the mainstream media.
This non-profit was created by three Chicago-area groups - AFSC, Oak Park Coalition for Truth and Justice, and United for
Peace-Faithful Citizenship, an interfaith peace group. Its web site features many speakers/performers, such as Hannah Rosenthal,
Francesca Royster, and Ray Hanania, as well as a large number of films.

Attendees at this event will hear singers Kristin Lems and Bucky Halker, poet Nina Corwin, and speakers Veronica Arreola and
Michael Terrien. (See May 20 for first date line-up.)

The Peace Museum is working on an endeavor "PEACE 2005". ?The museum will be offering patrons the opportunity to donate a peace
crane to honor a friend, loved one or colleague. Peace cranes will be suspended from the ceiling in our gallery, creating a
colorful wall. The 1000 colorful cranes will create a "wall of hope" for peace in 2005 in our gallery. Once we accumulate 1000
paper cranes, we will send the cranes to a hospital in Iraq. This will be a symbolic gesture to the Iraqi people to demonstrate
that we share in their wish for peace. Peace cranes may be purchased online by visiting www.peacemuseum.org and clicking
