Group Threatens Strike at Olympics

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Hispanic community leaders threatened a strike by Latinos during the Winter Olympics over the arrests of Salt lake City International Airport workers who used fake documents to get security passes.

The 69 workers arrested were mostly undocumented Latin American immigrants. About 200 others, who were not working in high-security areas, were fired but not charged. There were no known links toterrorism.

James Yapias, chairman for the Hispanic Advisory Council, said 13 companies - including rental car agencies, airlines and builders - have withheld wages of those arrested.

If the wages aren't paid by the Feb. 8-24 Salt Lake City Games, Yapias said, he and others will call for a statewide strike by all Hispanic workers during the first two days of the Olympics.

``We've spent a lot of time working with the Hispanic community this week in smaller meetings trying to address their concerns,'' U.S. Attorney spokeswoman Melodie Rydalch said.
