Chicago's Puerto Rican Cultural Center was the site for the annual pancake/waffle breakfast sponsored by Prairie Fire Organizing Committee (PFOC).
On Sunday, December 4, hundreds of activists and community residents partook of good food and political messages as the annual pancake/waffle breakfast sponsored by Prairie Fire Organizing Committee raised over $2000.00 for Vida/SIDA, an AIDS education and prevention program of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center and commissary for Puerto Rican Political Prisoners Carlos Alberto Torres and Oscar López Rivera.
Participants were treated to their choice of pancakes, waffles, vegan pancakes and fruit salad with a delicious raspberry yogurt compote and various fruit juices and coffee. The morning’s program consisted of an introduction by Annie Stanton, as well as a brief message by Michelle Morales of the coordinating committee of the National Boricua Human Rights Network, who presented a slide show of the “Not Enough Space” art exhibition opening in San Juan two weeks ago, featuring artwork by Carlos Alberto Torres and Oscar López Rivera.
In addition, as part of the first International Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners, which was celebrated in over 25 cities around the world, people were also fortunate to listen to recorded messages from North American Anti-Imperialist Marilyn Buck, Death Row Political Prisoner Mumia Abu Jamal and Puerto Rican Political Prisoner Carlos Alberto Torres.
