LOCAL Announcement :: Animal Rights

Fur Free Friday (Nov. 25th)

Mass March against the Fur Industry the day after Thanksgiving.
Each Year the fur industry is responsible for the death of some 40,000,000 animals. The methods of their killing include gassing, trapping, anal &
vaginal electrocution, neck breaking, drowning and other horrible practices. Animals that are trapped in the wild often resort to chewing off their own limbs in an attempt to escape traps. Other are left helpless to escape predators. Those who do survive have nothing but death to look forward to. The vast majority of these animals live their entire lives confined to small pens, with all their natural instincts denied them, these animals often are driven insane by their surroundings. Nervous pacing, self mutilation & cannibal are not rare sites on a fur farm. These animals suffer their entire lives & the only release they ever receive from their suffering is their inevitable death. A death that only serves an outdated sense of vanity and status. An entire lifetime of suffering and pain, just for the sake of fashion. For a coat. A coat which takes anywhere from 10 to 100 animals to make, depending on the animal. 1 fur coat has caused the death of:

12-15 lynx
10-15 wolves or coyotes
15-20 foxes
60-80 minks
27-30 racoons
10-12 beavers
60-100 squirrels

However, there is some hope for the animals. Many european nations are starting to take notice of the cruelty of fur farming. 6 out of 15 EU Member States have taken steps to restrict, phase-out or ban fur factory farming. However, the US remains light-years behind in its treatment of animals. The people responsible for these atrocities aren't going to stop on their own. It is up to all of us to stop them. To speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves. That is why every year, thousands of compassionate people across the country take to the streets the Friday after Thanksgiving to spread the truth about the fur industry. Chicago's Fur Free Friday march is one of over twenty that are being organized by local groups across the country. Please come out to help expose the sad truths behind the fur trade.
