CTA open to comments on cash fare increase

CTA open to comments on cash fare increase

Published October 27, 2005

Chicago Authority Transit riders will have a chance to comment on a proposed 25-cent cash fare increase at 4 p.m. Thursday at the agency's headquarters, 567 W. Lake St.

Under its proposed operating budget of just more than $1 billion, the CTA would increase cash fares to $2 from $1.75 starting Jan. 1. Cash transfers would be eliminated.

Fares for unlimited ride passes would remain the same, as would fares for people with a Chicago Card or Chicago Card Plus.

The proposal includes a recommendation to waive the $5 fee for the Chicago Cards from Dec. 1 to April 1.

Those who cannot attend the hearing have until Nov. 4 to submit written comments to the CTA at P.O. Box 7567; Chicago, 60680-7567; Attention: Gregory Longhini, assistant secretary.

Comments also can be e-mailed to
CTABoard@transitchicago.com.
