Artists Respond to the War:
A benefit for the Wicker Park Anti-War Committee
to further the growing voice for good
Logan Square - The Wicker Park Anti-War Committee is sponsoring an artists' forum and open mic on Friday, Dec. 7 at Center Portion, 2850 1/2 W Fullerton. Doors open at 7:30 PM. Performances begin at 8:00 PM. Acts will include a line up of local poets, writers, musicians, and other performers, followed by an open mic segment for those who sign up the night of the event. Refreshments will be available.
The purpose of this event is to provide a forum for the artist's voice to be heard in the context of the war on terrorism. We aim to provide a stage for anti-war and anti-imperialist viewpoints not tolerated in the mass media, and to promote dialogue in the community.
The event is also a benefit for the Wicker Park Anti-War Committee. Guests will be asked for a five dollar donation at the door. The money raised will fund the activities of the committee, which include hosting teach-ins and talks, organizing demonstrations, and publicizing the group's three goals: stop the war, prevent racist attacks, and defend civil liberties.
