Cindy, Mother of Dead Soldier Arrested in Front of White House
Washington, Sep 26 (Prensa Latina) Cindy Sheehan, the woman who reawakened the US antiwar movement by demanding to meet with President Bush after her son was killed in Iraq, was arrested Monday during a demonstration in front of the White House.

Sheehan, mother of 24-year-old Casey who was killed in Sadr City, Iraq last year, has led protests here for several weeks against Bush and the war in the Arab nation.

Cindy was among the hundreds of activists who sat down on the sidewalk on Pennsylvania Avenue, in front of the White House today, shouting "End the War Now" and who ignored police orders to "move on."

The 48-year-old mother was the first one arrested, cooperating with police when handcuffed and led to the police vehicle. Police spokespeople said she, and those arrested with her, would be charged with a misdemeanor and released in a few hours.

This protest, coinciding today by lobbying of congress people by anti-war activists, follows Saturday's protest of more than 100,000 people, the largest since the similar anti-Vietnam demonstrations and the most numerous in the Bush presidency.

"What is the noble cause for which my son died in Iraq?" Sheehan wanted to ask Bush during her 26-day vigil outside his Texas ranch, referring to the lies Washington told to justify the invasion of that country; for which she drew the attention of the world and reignited the anti-Iraq war movement.
