Coming up at Open University of the Left

Upcoming events at Open University of the Left are listed below through November 3. More programs are currently being planned for November, December and early next year. Come and join the discussion! All presentations are followed by a moderated group discussion. Food and beverages are available from Blackwater Cafe located right inside the complex. All events take place at Acme Arts Complex, 1741 N. Western Ave. at St. Paul Street, unless otherwise noted. Street parking is available on Western Ave. and along area side streets. *SUGGESTED DONATION: $5 or give what you can.

Thurs., Sept. 1, 7 PM:
Author and activist Paul Street on "Democrats, George Lakoff, and Neoliberal Racism in the Post-Civil Rights Era."

Thurs., Sept. 15, 7 PM:
Film: "The Power of Nightmares." A skeptical and very revealing look at the Neocons' so-called War on Terrorism.

Thurs., Sept. 29, 7 PM:
Hugh Iglarsh discusses Frances FitzGerald's "Fire in the Lake," a masterful history of the American war in Vietnam from the point of view of Vietnamese history and culture.

Sat., Oct. 8, 2 PM:
Film: "Kule Wampe" and highlights of Leni Riefenstahl's "Triumph of the Will": German cinema of the 1930s, in its Communist and Fascist manifestations.

Thurs., Oct. 20, 7 PM:
Film: "The War At Home." This film chronicles the Vietnam War in America.

Thurs., Nov. 3, 7 PM:
"What Went Wrong in Ohio": Anita and Jordan Miller present their book dealing with the various electoral manipulations of 2004.
