Mark Augusti Launches Socialist Campaign For Congress
According to well-placed political sources, financier Mark Augusti is believed to be planning a run on the Socialist Party ticket, spurning earlier plans for a race as a Green Party Member.
Financier Mark Augusti -- a political unknown -- today will announce that he is throwing his hat into the political ring as a candidate for the Fifth Congressional District seat in Chicago. He is said to be planning a run as a Socialist, not as a Green Party member, as earlier believed. Though Augusti is a registered Republican, he reckons that he can win the Socialist Party nomination, and compete against Rahm Emmanuel, another financier, in the fall of 2002, for the seat in the General Election. The Fifth Congressional district spans just north of downtown Chicago, west via Lincoln Avenue, and into suburbs like Melrose Park.
