Chicago – IFC Political Status Pickets Postponed

The Irish Freedom Committee has postponed the demonstration in front of the British Consulate in Chicago out of courtesy to the families of those innocent victims in the London bombings.

The Irish Freedom Committee has been demonstrating in front of the British Consulate every Saturday since St. Patrick's day between the hours of 12 noon and 2 PM. Today would have been the 19th consecutive demonstartion calling public attention to the inhumane conditions that the Irish Political Prisoners of War have to endure in both the British Prisons in England, in the occupied territory of Ireland, and in the 26 County jails run by the so-called Free State.

Just as the Irish Freedom Committee condemns the London bombings of innocent civilians, we also condemn the illegal occupation of Ireland by the British Government and its denial of prisoners rights as guaranteed under the Geneva Convention for Prisoners of War. These POW rights are flagrantly violated on a daily basis in the aforementioned jails.

Irish prisoners are arrested for Political Crimes; tried in Political Courtrooms by Politicians with Wigs, and then, by blatant contrast, they are sentenced to criminal incarceration, housed with common criminals. This is in violation of the Geneva Convention for prisoners of war.

The IFC will resume its demonstrations at a future date to be announced.

The Irish Freedom Committee continues the work in the United States by raising awareness of ongoing human rights abuses for Irish Republican POWs in British and Irish jails, and the loss of Political Status under the designed-to-fail "GFA" Peace Agreement.
