Charleston 5 Victory Celebration Nov. 14

Victory Rally for Charleston 5 Wed. Nov. 14 4:30-6:30 at Teamster City, sponsored by Illinois AFL-CIO
The Charleston Five case has ended in a total victory for these union members and the entire labor movement!

South Carolina AFL-CIO President Donna DeWitt will join us in Chicago November 14 at 4:30pm-6:00pm for a Victory Rally at Teamster City, 300 South Ashland, sponsored by the Illinois AFL-CIO, the Chicago Committee to Defend the Charleston Five and Chicago Jobs with Justice.

The Five are pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges -- which means they admit no guilt -- and will pay a token fine of $100 each.

This is a dramatic turnaround from the original indictment of the five on felony riot charges, in which State Attorney General promised "jail, jail and more jail" for the Five and placed them under house arrest for 20 months. This was not only an outrageous attack on labor rights. It was a calculated, race-baiting move: the ILA in Charleston is overwhelmingly African American and played a central role in the campaign to remove the Confederate flag from the state capitol.

Thanks to the international campaign, Condon was forced to withdraw and house arrest was lifted. Finally, the most anti-union state in the country had no choice but to back down in the face of tremendous union solidarity across the U.S. and around the world.

Come celebrate this major labor victory November 14!
