The SHORTWAVE REPORT 5/20/05 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Cuba, and Russia.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (May 20) is up at the website
< www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml >in both broadcast quality (13.1MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:38)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From NETHERLANDS- Greenpeace protesters occupied a Dutch nuclear power plant to demonstrate its lack of safety. Each nation in the EU will have a referendum on the establishment of an EU constitution- the Netherlands will vote soon, and here is a spokesperson for the opposition. As many as 700 demonstrators were murdered last week in Uzbekistan- while Western nations criticize the governments actions, behind the scene they continue to support the president's regime- and by accusing the demonstrators of being Islamic terrorists, international action is subdued.
From CUBA- There were large protests in occupied Palestinian territories on the anniversary of the creation of the Israeli state in 1948. Over a million Cubans marched in Havana on Tuesday to protest the presence of Luis Posada Carriles in the US and the imprisonment of the 5 Cuban political prisoners being held here. Then a Viewpoint about US authorities finally arresting terrorist Carriles, who was allowed to sneak in and hide in the US despite international demands for his extradition to Venezuela.
From RUSSIA- An Islamic terrorist suspect attended meetings at the White House with Hillary Clinton, Karl Rove, and George Bush between 1998 and 2001- his trial next month for involvement in terrorist activities may reveal links between the White House and the events of 9/11. The formation of an Iraqi government last month was expected to bring on peace- it appears that the opposite has happened, and no one can predict an end to the violence.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- < www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

--I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its people. The issues are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for themselves.
