The Communities of Population in Resistance are grassroots communities in Guatemala. These communities went underground after the 36-year civil intensified in the 1980's. They established a self-governance system preceding the Zapatista Autonomous Municipality model. In 1996 a peace accord brought the war to an end, however these communities continued to be marginalized and harassed. Currently they are in the process of establishing traditional Mayan medicinal gardens in the commonly owned land of the communities. For this purpose they need $2,000.00 for tools, seeds and other materials for the gardens. We have committed to help them raise $1,000 of this money.
