CIA's website will be shut down effective today, October 26, 2001, as a result of the new anti-terrorism bill, delivered to President Bush yesterday. The president is expected to sign the legislation into law immediately.

Attorney General John Ashcroft says he will order U.S. law enforcement to immediately use broad new police powers contained in an anti-terrorism bill once it becomes law. "History's judgment will be harsh ... if we fail to use every available resource to prevent future terrorist attacks," the attorney general said Thursday at the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

"We will use every available statute. We will seek every prosecutorial advantage. We will use all our weapons within the law and under the Constitution to protect life and enhance security for America," he continued.

Servers containing CIA's web data will be confiscated this evening, effectively shutting down the website. Officials claim that the website was previously used as hub for suspicious activity.

A spokesperson for CIA, who requested anonymity, said, "These are zealots and patriots who think that the situation is totally black and white, you're with us or against, there's no middle ground," she said. "I think they hope to hurt the movement because they don't like our stand, but I also think most people have no idea what the bill that was passed actually said."

"It is not our intention or desire to enable groups that shows no loyalty and solidarity to our government to continue their campaign of terror," Ashcroft commented during the conference.

As for the new police powers contained in the legislation headed for Bush's desk, "a new era in America's fight against terrorism, made tragically necessary by the attacks of Sept. 11, is about to begin," Ashcroft said.

"... Our enemies now have new reason to fear", he continued.

Seriously, though, I wish this were the case. Chicago In Action's website will be shut down as a result of continued lack of interest and participation in the group.

"Our liberties are now safe from the evildoers," a voice proclaimed.
