This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice Of Russia.
From NETHERLANDS- First, 2 press reviews- as China continues to protest against Japanese history books, some speculate if this is a symptom of an underlying struggle for Asian leadership. A Dutch airliner was not allowed to use US airspace on a flight to Mexico, as 2 of the passengers were among the 70,000 suspicious persons blacklisted by the US. US Defense Sec Rumsfeld is going to Afghanistan to promote the creation of permanent US military bases there. As Israeli PM Sharon visited Bush in Texas, Jewish extremists began a series of demonstrations to stop the pullout from the Gaza Strip.
From CHINA- Palestinian leader Abbas says he is astonished by Sharon's campaign in Texas against Palestinian authority. Japan has granted the right to oil firms to start test drilling for oil in the disputed E China Sea. Condi Rice has repeated that the US will not negotiate with terrorists to save the lives of US citizens held hostage in Iraq.
From CUBA- A Viewpoint on the growing American fear of Chinese involvement in Latin America. The CPB, which supplies money to most public radio stations in the US, is moving to the right under pressure from the White House. The Independent newspaper from the UK reports that the US is bringing wounded troops back to the states late at night to keep the press from reporting on the rapidly increasing numbers.
From RUSSIA- A commentary on the future of the Pentagon, with its unprecedented peacetime military budget. Despite the huge increases in spending, the costs of invasions, underway and planned, are limiting the development of new weapons.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
