The SHORTWAVE REPORT 4/1/05 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, China, Cuba, and Russia.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (April 1) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice Of Russia.
From NETHERLANDS- Israeli Prime Minister Sharon is facing opposition to the plan to withdraw Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip- a fight is expected which may postpone any withdrawal from the West Bank. UN Sec General Annan has been cleared of charges of wrongdoing in the oil-for-food program scandal- but is this conflict a sideshow, a distraction from the real issue of America wanting to punish him for failing to support the US invasion and occupation of Iraq?
From CHINA- Brazil has announced it will not renew a loan accord with the IMF. As Japan promotes its bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, its Asian neighbors are concerned that Japan has not acknowledged its war crimes.
From CUBA- At a recent conference in Paris, it was pointed out that the dioxin-based herbicides used by the US in the Vietnam war are still affecting the health of the population- and that the quantities of Agent Orange used make the conflict the biggest chemical war the world has ever seen. Then a Viewpoint on the notion that elections are the supreme expression of democracy- considering the financial manipulation of the voters in many so-called "democratic elections," one might question that notion.
From RUSSIA- US Sec of State Rice stated that no one is trying to encircle Russia, yet the US-aided "democratization" of post-Soviet neighbors does seem to raise the issue- what if Russia worked to "democratize" Mexico? The US is arguing that Iran does not need nuclear powerplants because of its vast oil and gas reserves- yet Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz all served in the administration of Gerald Ford, which proposed selling 6-8 nuclear powerplants to Iran.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better-  Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative-
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
