Chicago Cops Head To D.C. For Inauguration

Some Cook County Sheriff's Deputies Going, Too
CHICAGO, Jan 16 -- A number of Chicago police officers will be in Washington D.C. Thursday as part of an increased security effort for President George W. Bush's inauguration.

The officers will join personnel from about 70 other police departments from around the country. Some Cook County sheriff's deputies also will be in D.C. for the event.

Guarding against terrorism will be the main concern. But security officials in Washington also expect thousands of anti-war demonstrators to line the inaugural parade route.

Chicago police spokesman David Bayless said the federal government is covering the cost of bringing the Chicago officers to Washington for the job. He wouldn't say how many officers will be Chicago cops are going there.
