FORUM: Can the U.S. Bring Justice?

CAN THE U.S. bring justice or is it merely using this tragedy as a pretext for a war that will actually cause more innocent people to die and increase the possibilities of another terrorist attack in the U.S.? Or, as some suggest, can the terrorists be caught without igniting a war in central Asia or beyond?

PUBLIC FORUM - 7pm, Thursday, October 11, 2001
HAROLD WASHINGTON COLLEGE, 30 E. Lake, Room 201

ACROSS THE U.S. people want to hold the right people responsible for the terrible tragedies in New York and Washington, D.C. George W. Bush claims to want the same thing. But a look at what he and the Congress have done since the attacks cast doubt on their real motives and intentions.

BUSH DECLARED the right to make war on anyone that doesn't toe the U.S. line, saying, "either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists." People in the administration have talked about a years-long conflict (including civilian casualties) where attacking bin Laden and the Taliban is just the beginning.

THEY'VE BEEN talking about sacrifice at home, from wage cuts and layoffs and a loss of civil liberties to the prospect of U.S. soldiers being killed.

COME TO a meeting to discuss and debate these questions, and hear the socialist answer to the horrors of September 11 and the horrors that led to it.
