THE CHICAGO School Board and the U.S. Navy want to turn the North Side's Senn High School into a naval academy.
This proposal has met strong resistance from the Senn student body—one of the most ethnically diverse in the city—as well as the surrounding Rogers Park community.
The Navy's attempted takeover of Senn highlights the growing militarization of our schools. For example, the federal No Child Left Behind act has required high schools enrollment lists to be handed over the U.S. military recruiters.
Come to this important meeting to find out how teachers, union members, community activists and antiwar activists are fighting back.
