300 come out for West suburban Peace Rally

In a 13.5 mile long march, protesters from the western suburbs spoke out against the war with a day long peace rally and mock funeral.
On Saturday October 30 2004, app 300 protesters showed up for a day long march from the West Suburbs city of Wheaton to Geneva, 13.5 miles away. The marchers carried signs and cardboard coffins some with American flags to represent fallen soldiers, but most were just black to represent Iraqi deaths. In comparison to other Peace vigils and marches held in the area earlier in the year the response from passers by was much more positive. There were many more honk and cheers than fingers and screams. However most went by with a very pensive and sad look. Their purpose in carrying the coffins was to bring to mind the massive amount of casualties and human costs of the war. The number of people that came out was high, and very encouraging. Many people were encouraged by the numbers and the efforts. If things can change in such a traditionally conservative area, things must me changing all over the country. Our hard work was worth it, keep it up Chicago!!
