FREEDOM OF SPEECH CANCELLED AT WRIGHT COLLEGE

Daley lifts decades-old ban with CPD, allowing police to cross picket lines, in a desperate act to coerce students not to support CCC teacher's strike.

Today, October 25, 2004, a Wright College student was arrested. The student was passing out a student-authored flyer at the time of his arrest. Bystanders report that he was doing nothing out of the ordinary. He was simply exercising his first amendment right to free speech. This is a serious threat against students. The administration does not want the students to support striking teachers. The administration, through the Chicago Police Dept, is arresting students for supporting their teachers and their right to a quality education.

If students want the administration's violence to end, if students want their education to get back to normal, they must refuse to attend classes during this strike. The support of City College students has been inspirational. Students need to continue to support not only their teachers, but their right to higher education.
