"Don't Turn Tragedy Into War"- peace vigil this Sat.

Join other grieving people in Chicago for a peace vigil this Saturday, Sept 15th.
Chicago In Action is organizing a vigil this Saturday, Sept 15th, in response to the tragedy that occurred this week. Rather than continuing a spiral of war and hatred, we ask that people rally for peace to honor those who lost their lives.

Hate crimes are already starting to occur against people of Arabic descent. In light of the racist backlash that is starting to take place, and considering the fact that the government will use this incident as an excuse to restrict our civil liberties, we feel that it's especially important that PEACE be seen as the best course of action, rather than the war cries that the mainstream media has been feeding us.

This vigil will not be silent, but will be a forum in which people will be encouraged to speak their thoughts and discuss the ramifications of what has happened.

It will take place from 5:30-7 pm at UIC, at the grassy plaza located behing the library and lecture centers at Harrison and Halsted streets. The Blue Line UIC/Halsted stop is the closest El stop.

Please spread this information around, and come to the vigil this Saturday. See the Chicago In Action web site for details, or to download a flyer (pdf file) for distribution.

If you are part of an activist group that would like to endorse the rally, please call and leave a voice message or send an email.
