The latest Shortwave Report (September 7) is up on the website www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml/ in both broadcast quality (13.5MB/29:37) and quick download/streaming quality (3.4MB/29:37). As always, it's free to rebroadcast upon notification, if you only use portions please mention the website. The sound quality of the smaller file is not broadcast quality but fine for just listening.
This weeks show has stories from the Voice of Russia, Spanish National Radio, Radio Deutsche Welle, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Russia- Russia says the oil they want to pull from the Barren Sea is as much as the North Atlantic Sea; a report on the problems of depleted uranium- birth defects in Iraq and the "Gulf War Syndrome."
From Spain- Basque revolutionaries, ETA, is accused of having a hitlist of over 2000 politicians, police, and military; in Columbia, FARC rebels kidnap the head of the secret police, and the UN condemns the murder of a prosecutor investigating army officers accused of murdering peasants; an update on the land reform movement in Zimbabwe; Protestants throw a pipe bomb injuring 4 police escorting Catholic students to school.
From Germany- a press review from Wednesday covering the N Ireland fighting and the UN Conference on Racism; a US report says 2/3rd's of the electricity produced by burning coal in the US could be produced easily by wind generators.
From Cuba- an Argentine Nobel Peace Prize Laureate says the Spanish government is not trying to make peace with ETA; Panama wants information from the US about where toxic weapons were used and buried on San Jose Island; Fidel Castro's speech at the UN Conference on Racism is well-received by many, and he visits Nelson Mandela while there.
All this plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen to this program and broadcast it if you are in that position. I'm still seeking a no-strings-attached funder. I'd love to here any comments you might have about any of this.
