Board of Education Opts for Gentrification- South and West Side Children, Communities Lose

Teachers say no to school closings & classroom cuts, on the backs of the neediest students.

On Wednesday, June 23, parents, Local School Council Members, teachers, representatives of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, local school reformers, civil rights activists, Chicago Teachers Union leaders called on the members of the Board of Education to reject Chicago Public Schools’ CEO Arne Duncan’s plan to close ten schools and eight Child Parent Centers, and block freshman enrollment at two high schools.
