In light of recent published and unpublished plans relating to the reintroduction of the military draft, which I suspect most people (except for the warmongers in Washington) are opposed to, I suggest that all those who are against this measure check out the following resources:
- Both the Center on Conscience and War (
nisbco.org/) and the Selective Service Draft Registration Freeze Initiative Resolution Committee (
www.draftresistance.org/) promote the rights of conscientious objectors, and oppose all conscription, civilian and military.
- The Central Committee for Conscientious Objectors (
www.objector.org/) supports and promotes individual and collective resistance to war and preparations for war.
- The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)--
aclu.org/ -- actively promotes civil libertarianism, especially through legal action.
- The Committee Opposed to Militarism and the Draft (
comdsd.org/)is another organization whose website contains information about the negative effects of conscription in America.
- Many veterans want to end the draft. Veterans for Peace (
www.veteransforpeace.org/) is a non-profit educational and humanitarian organization dedicated to the abolishment of war.
- The National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund (
www.peacetax.org/) and Conscience and Peace Tax International (
www.cpti.ws/) advocate for legislation enabling conscientious objectors to have their federal income taxes directed to a special fund which could be used for non-military purposes only.
- The Draft is also opposed by many religious groups, such as The Mennonite Church (
www.mennoniteusa.org/), The United Methodist Church (General Board of Church and Society --
www.umc-gbcs.org/), The Friends Committee on National Legislation (
www.fcnl.org/) and Friends United Meeting (
www.fum.org/) -- two Quaker organizations.
