Due to the U.S. government’s declaration of war against Iraq, on March 20, 2003, an estimated 15,000 Chicagoans marched in the streets of downtown, along with acts of opposition across the world. Fueled by their anger against the U.S. Government’s decision to wage war, the march resulted in the take over of Lake Shore Drive. Not only are the Iraqi people still suffering, but the U.S. government is slowly decreasing our ability to oppose their inhumane capitalist atrocities. One year later, the opposition is strong, our voices WILL be heard again!!

Come Walk Against: The U.S. occupation and war against Iraq
The U.S. occupation of Afghanistan and Haiti
The U.S. support of Israeli forces against the Palestinian people The U.S. Government’s anti-terrorist agenda, resulting in the decrease of civil rights and the unlawful surveillance and criminalization of non-citizens.

We encourage everyone to find a location nearest you on the map and be there Saturday March 20th at the estimated time to join us in the Walk Against War. We may be a few minutes late, so please be patient.

The Walk Against War is a 30 mile walk starting at the Southwest Side of Chicago, working its way to the large downtown Regional Anti-War March, starting @Water Tower & Michigan, working its way to the Federal Plaza rally. Along the way, we’re encouraging people to meet, greet, AND join us at any of the rally points along the route. Think its over after that?? We’re heading up north finishing in Wicker Park at an unknown time, due to the length of the downtown march.

So, WHY a 30-Mile Walk Against War?

We aim to bring our positive messages to the communities & peoples throughout Chicago. We hope to demonstrate to people that we are willing to go to great lengths to further the struggle against the war as well as show our passion for justice. We are indignant over the atrocities that have occurred as a result of our government and it’s “war against terror.”

Our moral beliefs compel us to take action against the wars of our government and against other institutions complicit in the current wars around the world. We take action with the belief that we are going to stop the current wars. Our objective is to raise the hope and awareness of people throughout Chicago and the world.

There have been many walks against cancer, aids & many other important issues. There will be no money raised through our walk, we intend to raise something much stronger- The consciousness of people! This is just the beginning! This is one small step toward the building of a progressive society without war, exploitation, capitalism, destruction, etc… We will not let the issues die down. March 20 we are taking the issues to the streets of Chicago (not just downtown- all over Chicago!). Down with war! Join us in our walk toward a better future on March 20th!

Bring your friends and family!!

Posters, banners, and musical instruments (along with water) are encouraged.
Have a lot of energy? Want to keep going?

We encourage everyone to continue with us, we’re heading downtown!! Check out the map and figure out a distance that is good for you, we’re going ALL the way! Don’t forget your good walking shoes!!
