Crossroads Fund Celebrates Chicago-Area Grassroots Organizing

The Crossroads Fund hosts its annual event, "Dancin' with the Grass: A Celebration of Grassroots Organizing", on Friday, October 27, at 6:00pm at the HotHouse, 31. E. Balbo.
Crossroads Fund will host its annual event, "Dancin’ with the Grass", on Friday, October 27 at 6:00pm, at the HotHouse, 31 E. Balbo, to promote the work of progressive grassroots organizing in the Chicago-area. Funkadesi, Chicago’s award-winning Indo-Afro-Caribbean band, will be the headlining performers for the event.

The Crossroads Fund will be honoring four individuals and groups for their organizing work: Ann Christophersen, co-founder and co-owner of Women and Children First Bookstore; Nancy Myers, an activist on many fronts including women’s rights and international solidarity work; Chicago ADAPT (Americans Disabled for Accessible Public Transit), a direct-action organization of people with disabilities demanding access to public resources including transportation, healthcare, and housing; and, Insight Arts, which promotes cross-issue organizing among Chicago’s Rogers Park community members including youth, people of color, lesbian/gay/bi-sexual/transgender people, and people with disabilities.

Dancin’ with the Grass celebrates the work of Chicago-area individuals and groups that work on a broad range of issues such as disability rights, anti-police brutality, and youth empowerment. Crossroads Fund highlights the cutting-edge work of grantee groups and activists through this event to promote community dialogue, address pressing social issues, and honor the work of groups that are working for fundamental social change. Tickets are $20, $10 for low-income, and are available by calling the Crossroads Fund office at 773.227.7676 or may be purchased at the door.

The Crossroads Fund is a public foundation guided by principles of social justice and economic democracy. We raise resources and provide grants and technical assistance to progressive grassroots organizations working for social change, and who challenge the social and institutional systems that create social barriers, inequality, and oppression.
