Who We Are
Revolution Youth is the U.S. affiliate of the Revolutionary Youth International (RYI), a coalition of youth in 24 countries. The founding conference of the RYI took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil in the year 2000, at the initiative of young activists of the Fourth International who sought to unite and strengthen the anti-capitalist youth movement. The central points of unity of Revolution Youth and the RYI are:
Anti-Capitalism: The only way to build a society that puts human needs, not corporate profit, at the center of its priorities is through revolution.
Mass Action Strategy: Only the independent, mass, united struggle of the workers and youth can defeat war, privatization, poverty, racism, sexism, environmental devastation and all the other evils of the system we live under.
Internationalism: Build the RYI! Because capitalism is international, our struggle to free ourselves from it must be too.
What We Stand For
As revolutionaries, today we are in the minority. Unfortunately for the ruling classes of the world, this is only temporary. We in the Revolutionary Youth International don't have in our ranks any fortune tellers with crystal balls to see into the future. Our optimism is based on two facts:
Capitalism is unable to provide for the most basic needs of the majority of people living on this planet. Furthermore, under the name of 'globalization", today capitalism is putting into question every single conquest won through years of struggle: public education, social security, workers rights laws, etc.
The youth and workers of the world are resisting this march towards barbarism.
We in the RYI don't passively wait for a revolution in the distant future. We organize in defense of all of our basic rights and in this process explain the need for revolution. Because the mass struggles occurring right now for peace, for education, and against privatization all come into direct confrontation with the capitalist system, we know that through participating in these struggles and demonstrating in practice that we can only win our demands through revolution, we who are in the minority today will be the majority of the not too distant future.
