After 14 days of restraint Macedonian forces have fired on the Albanian terrorists in Tetovo.

The National Liberation Army (UCK) which is composed of former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army has been attempting to provoke reaction from the Macedonian army since the NATO brokered cease fire was implemented on July 5.

``Because the positions of the Macedonian security forces were endangered and their lives threatened and because the rebels have broken the cease-fire we responded appropriately,'' Reuters reported Macedonian Ministry of Defense spokesman, Marjan Gjurovski saying.

At the outset of the cease fire members of the UCK began to occupy Tetovo. The city is the unofficial capital of Macedonia's ethnic Albanian community, according to the BBC.

"We came in on the day of the cease-fire and we are not leaving," the New York Times reported a UCK brigade leader, who calls himself Commander Roki, saying.

Peace talks between aimed at "resolving" the conflict in Macedonia have were faultering last week.
