Various working groups discussed everything from guerrilla theatre to the logistics of housing hundreds of thousands of visiting protesters to the training of legal observers and street medics. The outreach working group announced it would be organizing community forums around the city this spring in advance of a New York Summer full of activism.
A statement posted on their web site explains, “Throughout the spring, we will be reaching out to our neighbors, our coworkers, our classmates, and members of our congregations in open forums to discuss how these policies have affected them and how they are responding. In May, we will launch a calendar that fills the 100 days leading up to the convention with events that highlight our neighbors' efforts. The calendar will also be a way to invite people and groups to take action throughout the summer.”
Other groups are also organizing for the RNC including Still We Rise and People’s Primary. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly recently told an interviewer he wouldn’t rule out using Cointelpro-type tactics to monitor protest groups. On Monday, the Biotic Baking Brigade struck again, pieing anti-abortion activist Randall Terry outside a Planned Parenthood office. The next meeting of the No RNC Clearinghouse is February 5 at 7 p.m. at St. Marks Church at 2nd and 10th St.
