CHICAGO INDEPENDENT TELEVISION

 !  CHICAGO INDEPENDENT TELEVISION

In the summer of 2003 the idea of an independent television show, free from corporate bias and serving the needs of the community, was conceived. Chicago Independent Television is the result of that movement.

Our mission is to provide YOUR CORPORATE NEWS ALTERNATIVE.

Indymedia is a collective of independent media organizations and hundreds of journalists offering grassroots, non-corporate coverage. Indymedia is a democratic media outlet for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of truth.

We are the Chicago Indymedia Video Collective. We operate along the same lines as Indymedia, fostering the same ideals and processes.

Instead of kicking our foot through the television in frustration at the state of the media, we decided to do something about it. Moving beyond critique to action, we are part of a larger movement to reform the media. We are a collective of media producers, activists, videographers and concerned citizens offering your alternative to mainstream corporate coverage of local and international events, movements and expression.

Our television show is a calling card for people to submit their own stories, videos and footage of current events, social justice movements and reflections on the world.

We will broadcast our show as a part of a greater package of distribution that will include festival screenings, internet broadcasts and downloads, CD/DVD distribution and any other avenue we can think of to get our material out there.

We aim to create a collaborative process that forges new paths in the production of not for profit, stimulating, informative media.

We will bring your stories, ideas and artistic expression to a wide and varied audience.

It is our goal to provide an opportunity to everyone to produce material for our show, and also to produce for our other distribution outlets.

Long-term goal: A community video center accessible to all, a regular television show and a wide distribution.
Short-term goal: To produce the first show by the production date deadline in January, and to produce our second show shortly afterwards.

New avenues of distribution are available to us now that were never available before. We intend to be at the forefront of a new movement to use these radical forms of expression to reach audiences everywhere and to bring our stories to the world.

 !   How It Works
SEND US YOUR VIDEOS!!!
We are looking for videos between 3 to 8 minutes in length, ideally, but if you have pieces that are longer or shorter than this, please feel free to submit them too and we’ll see what we can do.

We are also looking for “Bumpers” to fit between the video pieces that we show. These should incorporate a mention of Chicago Independent Television in order for our audience to know what they are watching, but otherwise you have free reign with the format. These should be roughly 8 seconds long.

If you need a frame of reference for this kind of work, think of MTV in the early days when the station accepted submitted videos of a given length (the music videos) and also artistic animations and videos incorporating the MTV logo that were used to interject the videos and reinforce the logo. These were MTV’s bumpers. As long as you mention Chicago Independent Television in the bumpers, you can pretty much do what you want!

If we are happy that the material you submit is of broadcast quality (we’ll help you with this if you need it!) and will fit into one of our shows, we will include it.

Come to the News From The Underground Festival!
This is a festival of autonomous media to be held in Chicago on January the 16th and 17th. We will be premiering the first episode of Chicago Independent Television and will be in attendence to answer all your questions and accept any submissions you might have.
