Taste of Chicago even more corporatized
McTaste of McChicago?!? Festival goers are going to be tasting Big Macs and beef-flavored french fries this summer.
The John Kass column in Thursdays Chicago Tribune revealed something that absolutely shocked me: the Taste of Chicago, supposedly organized to showcase local restaurants, is giving McDonalds a huge booth in a prime location. I thought that they would at least support the fiction of local empowerment in food service for one weekend out of the year, but evidently there was too much money to be made. The full text of the column (Nothing quite like nuggets to show our diverse Taste) can be found at
www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/kass/, although the URL may change when his next column comes out. I wonder how much money McDonalds would lose if people protested...
